IMPACT / COVID-19

According to an article posted on 8 May 2020 by the Daily Maverick, 'it's difficult to quantify the number of people in need during a crisis, but early indications suggest as many as 34% of people in South Africa have gone to bed hungry during the lockdown.' The foundation supports two primary schools in the Nyanga township, where the unemployment rate is 68%, and the community faces poverty and violence daily.

With the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown imposed on the country in March 2020, those affected most are the most vulnerable...the children. Schools have been closed for almost two months where most of the kids receive their only meal of the day. Nomha Thyulu, our project coordinator, is a resident of Nyanga and approached the director about helping the children of the community with a feeding scheme. In a call to friends and family, the foundation was able to fundraise to provide sandwiches, juice, and fruit for 250 children in Nyanga on the 13th of May 2020. With additional donations, the Foundation was able to donate food parcels to ten families in Nyanga on June 13th. The organization was blessed by the Beacon Hill MIssionary Baptist Church in Herndon, Virginia (USA) with several donations in honor of Donald White/Mandla A. Ndwanya Memorial Fund, one of the founding fathers of the church. With these donations, we were able to donate fifty food parcels to students and their families at Mkhanyiseli primary school on July 4th, 2020 (Independence Day in the U.S.) and John Pama primary school, on July 18th (in honor of Nelson Mandela's birthday).

IMPACT / Mkhanyiseli Primary School

Hi Takiyah,

It's been a while since we last spoke. After the 'VIOLENT STORMS' that hit us here in Cape Town just after we reopened schools, most of our learners lost their belongings, including their school uniform. Fortunately we still had some uniforms and shoes left, thanks to your donations. We managed to support all the affected learners because we don't just give to everybody but only those who really need it most. We were all smiles and forgot about the tragedy and I thought I should share our excitement through these few photos.

You guys are really touching lives by what you are doing, those learners' are testimony to that.....KEEP IT UP!!!

Regards,
